WE’LL HAVE MORE “INSIDE WEST VIRGINIA POLITICS” COMING UP. VIRGINIA POLITICS” WITH MARK CURTIS. WELCOME BACK TO “INSIDE WEST VIRGINIA POLITICS.” PASSOVER IS ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT JEWISH HOLIDAYS. IT IS CELEBRATING THE BIRTH OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE, THE JEWISH NATION. WE REMEMBER THE STORY IN THE BOOK OF EXODUS, HOW THE JEWISH PEOPLE WERE LIBERATEDDED FROM EGYPTIAN BONDAGE. IT BEGINS THE FIRST OF THREE MAJOR HOLIDAYS FOR THE JEWISH PEOPLE, THE CELEBRATION OF OUR BIRTH AS A NATION, FOLLOWED BY THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE COVENANT AS A NATION WHICH IS THE GIVING OF THE HEBREW BIBLE, FOLLOWED BY THE WANTEDDERRINGS OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE, WHICH IS A THIRD HOLIDAY WHICH TAKES PLACE ALREADY HAPPENED, PASSOVER FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY NIGHT. TELL ME ABOUT YOUR MESSAGE TO PEOPLE DURING THESE SPECIAL COUPLE OF DAYS. IT’S A SEVEN-DAY HOLIDAY. THE FIRST TWO DAYS HAVE ALREADY OCCURRED. BUT THE HOLIDAY FOR THE JEWISH PEOPLE HAS ACTUALLY TWO IDEAS. ONE IS CELEBRATION OF OUR ANCIENT PAST, OUR GLORIOUS PRESENT AND THE IDEA OF THE FUTURE REDEMPTION, SOMETHING THAT CHRISTIANS AND JEWS SHARE. SO ON ONE HAND IT’S A VERY TRADITIONAL MESSAGE. FOR MANY CENTURIES UNFORTUNATELY THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JEWS AND CHRISTIANS HAVE BEEN TROUBLED, LOTS OF PERSECUTION AGAINST JEWS. THE WARM RELATIONS THAT HAVE DEVELOPED BETWEEN JEWS AND CHRISTIANS, ESPECIALLY CATHOLICS AND JEWS WARMS THE HEARTS OF EVERY JEW. WE USE THIS TIME TO RECOGNIZE THE SHARED TRADITIONS THAT BOTH PASS OVER AND EASTER SHARE TOGETHER. EASTER REPRESENTS THE LAST SUPPER FOR JESUS, THE EVENT YOU RESURRECTION. FOR US THE LAST SUPPER IS REALLY THE PASS OVER SERVICE AND THE LAND OF EGYPT AND GAVE US THE COVENANT TO SHARE WITH THE WORLD. I LIKE, YOU BROUGHT UP THE CONNECTIVE TISSUE FOR PEOPLE OF COMMUNITIES INCLUDING NOT JUST THE JEWISH COMMUNITY, THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY. ONE OF THE THINGS I FOUND AND GROWN TO LOVE ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY HERE IN CHARLESTON IS HOW WE’VE COME TOGETHER. WHEN EVER THERE’S BEEN A TRAGEDY. BOTH WITH THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY RECENTLY IN PARIS, BUT ALSO IN THE JEWISH COMMUNITY IN PITTSBURGH, RECENT INCIDENTS THAT HAPPENED TO THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY. WHEN EVER THOSE THINGS THAT HAPPEN, THE FIRST RESPONDERS, IF YOU WILL, HAVE BEEN OTHER FAITH COMMUNITIES, AND THAT’S SOMETHING WE SHOULD CHERISH AND CELEBRATE THIS SEASON. YOU’RE RIGHT, THIS IS A SEASON TO CELEBRATE OBVIOUSLY, BUT AGAIN THIS IS A MESSAGE YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO CONTINUE WITH. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE NEIL YOUR COMMUNITY AND OTHER COMMUNITIES MOVING FORWARD COME OUT WITH? I THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR THESE HOLIDAYS AND FOR THE SEASON IS TO REMIND OURSELVES THAT WE SHARE MORE THAN WE DO NOT SHARE. WHEN EVER WE TALK WITH EACH OTHER, WHETHER IT’S WITH THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY, CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY, MUSLIM COMMUNITY, JEWISH COMMUNITY, WE FIND THAT OUR CONNECTEDNESS IS FAR STRONGER AND THOSE BONDS ARE FAR STRONGER THAN WE THINK. BUT THE ONLY WAY THAT HAPPENS IS WHEN WE TALK TO EACH OTHER, HAD WE LEARN FROM EACH OTHER. I’VE BEEN OVERJOYED THIS ENTIRE PAST WEEK DOING PASSOVER SEDERS, PASS OVER SERVICES FOR CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES, FROM BAPTISTS TO METHODISTS TO POLICE BY — TO PRESBYTERIANS. TO HAVE A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR FAITH. EACH OTHER’S WISDOM, OUR APPROACHES TO GOD, AND WE LEARN FROM EACH OTHER TO BE BETTER HOPEFULLY HUMAN BEINGS. IT’S SO INTERESTING THAT YOU’RE GOING TO OTHER COMMUNITIES JUST TO TEACH THEM, LIKE YOU SAID, THEY’RE NOT NECESSARILY BECOMING JEWISH, BUT YOU WANT TO TEACH THEM ABOUT YOUR FAITH. DO YOU FEEL THAT EVEN THOUGH WE’RE IN SUCH A DIVIDED TIME THAT ACTUALLY PEOPLE ARE COMING TOGETHER MORE AND MORE? UNFORTUNATELY TRAGEDIES HAVE A TENDENCY TO, WELL, IT CAN SEPARATE US, BUT IT CAN ALSO BRING US TOGETHER. THESE MAJOR THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO EACH OF OUR COMMUNITIES, WE ALL FIND WAYS TO REACH OUT. I HOPE THAT WILL CONTINUE FOREVER. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING
