Nancy and Craig Willis | 2019 Distinguished Alumni Awards

By | October 21, 2019

Hi! I’m Craig Willis. I graduated from
University of Iowa Law School in 1975. I’m Nancy Willis. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree
from the University of Iowa in 1977 and my law degree from the University of Iowa in 1980. To receive this award certainly is a very humbling experience. Quite frankly, it makes me feel
that I need to even be a better person and continue with the contributions
that we have already begun, we’re interested in making in reference to the community and the University. And to be part of the Hickerson Award, knowing who Loren Hickerson was… and I attended Horace Mann School
and so I rode my bicycle downhill past the street
that went off to Loren Hickerson’s house. It was awe-inspiring to be around him and
his reputation and now it is a humbling experience as Nancy says,
to be associated with his reputation. I personally am most proud of becoming
an active member of the community. Craig and I have both felt a commitment to
give back to a community that’s given that’s given us a great deal. And I would I would add
to that Nancy, that being part of both the University and the town community is
it’s all one thing. In Iowa City, it’s physically not a
town and gown separation. You see your professors and other faculty members in the grocery store and on the street. Life exists not just in the ivory ivory
tower but also out here in the street. It’s all one thing.
