Ms Rebecca Scott – Alumni Community Service Award

By | September 3, 2019

In 2005 and 2006, I decided to build a
social enterprise. And I wanted to think deeply about how it would
work and what it would look like. So I enrolled in a Masters of International and
Community Development at Deakin University. And I used those two years to
test and play and explore ideas. I’m Rebecca Scott and I’m the CEO and
co-founder of Streat. ♪ [music] ♪ Streat’s a Melbourne based
social enterprise and it works with young people between
the ages of 16 and 25; young people who really need opportunities and really
need a hand. We give them job skills and life skills, but most importantly
we give them somewhere to belong. I really love trying to solve big
intractable social issues and particularly bringing together lots of different groups
of people from different disciplines to try and collaborate in
doing that together. Because it’s my firm belief, we can’t just
leave these problems to governments alone. Every single person in our
community has a role to play. ♪ [music] ♪
