OTHER ACTIVIST PLED GUILTY TO A LESSER CHARGE. RIGHT NOW THE LOCAL LGBT COMMUNITY IS RALLYING FOR CHANGE IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. ALISON MONTOYA JOINING US LIVE FROM ST. PETERS AB JAMES CATHEDRAL WHERE A VIGIL IS UNDERWAY. THIS AFTER THE VATICAN HINTED ANYWAY AT SOFTENING ITS STANCE ON GAYS AND LESBIANS, RIGHT? THAT’S EXACTLY RIGHT. GOOD EVENING TO YOU FROM DOWNTOWN HERE AT ST. PETER. PEOPLE HERE SELL ME THIS IS A HUGE STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND OF COURSE THEY ARE PRAYING THE ROSARY RIGHT NOW FOR ACCEPTANCE IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. THIS ROSARY VIGIL STARTED AT 5:30 HERE ON THE STEPS OF ST. PETER AND CHAINS DOWNTOWN AS THE POPE AND BISHOPS CONTINUED THEIR MEETINGS AT THE VATICAN. CINCINNATI IS ONE OF SEVEN STOPS ON THIS NATION-WIDE EVENT. THE HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN GROUP KNOWS THE CHURCH WILL NOT RECOGNIZE GAY MARRIAGE BUT THEY ARE HOPING TO BE TREATED AS EQUALS IN THE CHURCH. THE GROUP SAYS IT’S GREAT THE BISHOPS AND POPES ARE NOW SOFTENING THEIR STANDS ON THE LGBT COMMUNITY AND THEY ARE HOPING FOR THE SAME RIGHT HERE AT HOME. THE BIGGEST EXAMPLE OF THE CHURCH NOT BEING RECEPTIVE TO LGBT ISSUES IS RELATED TO THEIR CURRENT CONTRACTS WITH TEACHERS. FIRING TEACHERS THAT STAND UP FOR LGBT RIGHTS. A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE WAS ACTUALLY A CASUALTY OF THOSE CONTRACTS THE NOT ONLY ARE THEY LOSING GOOD TEACHERS, IT’S DISCRIMINATION. CATHOLICS AND NONCATHOLICS HERE THE LGBT COMMUNITY HERE IN CINCINNATI WILL CONTINUE TO PRAY THE ROSARY IN HOPES OF SENDING A PRETTY STRONG MESSAGE TO THE VATICAN. REPORTING LIVE DOWNTOWN, I’M ALISON MONTOYA, WLWT NEWS 5. THE HUMAN RIGHTS GROUP WILL CONTINUE ITS CAMPAIGN IN THE FOLLOWING DAYS IN PHILADELPHIA
