THE PLACE WHERE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FANS IN THE STATELINE GO ON THE WEEKENDS. I’M SAMANTHA RIVERA. ((SCOTT)) AND I’M SCOTT LEBER. WE’VE GOT YOUR WEEK ONE HIGHLIGHTS COMING UP, AND WHAT AN OPENING WEEKEND IT WAS! WE’LL BE JOINED BY A PAIR OF COACHES. PLUS WE’LL HAVE OUR WEEK ONE MVP, OUR PLAY OF THE WEEK AND OUR FLASHBACK SEGMENT. ((SAMANTHA)) WE KICK-OFF THIS SHOW WITH PERHAPS THE TOP TWO CONTENDERS IN THE NIC-10 CONFERENCE GOING IT AT….HONONEGAH AND HARLEM. ((SCOTT)) LAST YEAR THEY WENT AT IT ON THE FINAL WEEK OF THE SEASON. HONONEGAH WON THAT GAME TO CLINCH IT’S SECOND STRAIGHT NIC-10 CHAMPIONSHIP. THE INDIANS TOOK A 19 GAME CONFERENCE WINNING STREAK INTO OUR GAME OF THE WEEK. THEIR LAST CONFERENCE LOSS WAS TO HARLEM IN THE 2016 SEASON. 1. Harlem’s athletic budget getting healthy with this huge crowd. This is the man for Harlem…QB James Cooper Jr. the NIC-10’s top passer last season. 2. Here he is in the final minute of the first quarter lofting it perfectly to Brandt Hixson for six. The game was tied at eight. Cooper threw a school-record 376 yards. 3. Later Cooper under pressure…getting heat from linebacker Lucas Hale and company….Cooper throws it up..it’s picked by Blayden Colwell. 4. In the third quarter things got interesting. Christian Gomez makes a little cutback…and he has nothing but running room. He went 59 yards giving Honongah the lead. 5. The Indians increased that later in the third…Payton Mather hits Brayden Sayles on the slant. He’s good. That’s a 30 yard touchdown. Hoononegah led 22-8. 6. But Harlem’s never it out it with their offense. Harlem stormed back to take the lead. EVENTUALLY THE TWO WOULD TIE IT UP LATE IN THE 4TH… BUT HONONEGAH WOULD GO ON TO WIN WITH Bryce Goodwine’s 31- YARD FIELD GOAL. THE FINAL SCORE 33- 30. A WILD FINISH. ((SCOTT QUESTION 1)) JOINING NOW ON THE SPORTS CONNECTION HOTLINE IS HONONEGAH HEAD COACH BRIAN ZIMMERMAN. BRIAN YOUR GUYS WERE OPPORTUNISTIC IN THIS GAME. THE BIGGEST OPPORTUNITY CAME AT THE END THAT LED TO BRYCE GOODWINE’S FIELD GOAL. WHAT’S BRYCE’S RANGE AND HOW GOOD DID YOU FEEL ABOUT SENDING HIM OUT THERE TO ATTEMPT THAT? ((COACH ANSWERS 1)) ((SAMANTHA QUESTION 2)) IT WAS A BACK-AND- FORTH GAME. AN QUESTION 2)) IT WAS A BACK-AND- FORTH GAME. AN EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER. WHAT WAS IT LIKE ON THE SIDELINE? ((COACH ANSWERS 2)) ((SCOTT QUESTION 5)) THIS ONLY COUNTS AS ONE WIN, BUT IT IS A HUGE ONE. I GUESS THE CHALLENGE NOW IS TO GET YOUR GUYS TO PUT THIS BEHIND THEM AND GET THEM TO STAY FOCUSED ON IMPROVING THE REST OF THIS LONG SEASON. ((COACH ANSWERS 5)) ((SAMANTHA)) OUR THANKS TO COACH ZIMMERMAN FOR JOINING US. ((SCOTT)) WE APOLOGIZE FOR THOSE AUDIO ISSUES. BUT WHAT A WIN FOR THE INDIANS. WE’LL SEE HOW THE REST OF THE NIC-10 ACTION WENT IN WEEK ONE IN A MOMENT. RIGHT NOW LETS FIRE UP OUR SPORTS CONNECTION FAN CAM…. IT’S LOCKED IN ON THE HONONEGAH STUDENT SECTION. THEY WENT WITH THE WHITEOUT THEME AT HARLEM. WHAT A TURNOUT THEY HAD. IT’S ONE THING TO SHOW UP FOR HOME GAMES, BUT FOR THAT MANY TO MAKE A ROAD TRIP IS GREAT SUPPORT. NOT THAT IT’S FAR FROM ROCKTON TO MACHESNEY PARK, BUT STILL… THAT’S AN IMPRESSIVE GROUP. AND THE TRIP WAS WELL WORTH IT FOR THEM WITH THEIR INDIANS PULLING OUT THE WIN. WE’LL BE RIGHT BACK. ((SCOTT))
