BECAUSE THERE’S MORE IN THE FORECAST. THANKS. THE NOPD IS LOOKING FOR HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE FOR JOINING THE FORCE FROM RECRUITING FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IT WAS A BUSY DAY FOR DOZENS OF CITY LEADERS WHO ROLLED UP THEIR SLEEVES TO MAKE THE CITY SAFER AND STRONGER. ONE WORD DESCRIBE AS TWO-FOLD MISSION, THE NINTH NOLAN FOR LINE. SAMPSON PLAY GROUND. WE IDENTIFY 106 GANG MEMBER WHO IS HAVE BEEN INDICTED OVER 11 DIFFERENT GANGS. COUNTING THE PROGRAM’S SUCCESS AND A 2014 MURDER REDUCTION RATE, THE SUPERINTENDENT SHOWED SUPPORT FOR FIRST RESPONDERS WHILE URGING OTHERS TO SIGN UP ON SIGHT. IT’S A VERY DANGEROUS JOB. AND WE HAVE A POLICE DEPARTMENT AND A FIRE DEPARTMENT THAT HAVE BEEN WORKING UNDER VERY DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES. AS WE MAKE SURE THAT WE REFORM THESE DEPARTMENTS BUT WE HAVE FOLKS THAT PROTECT AND SERVE. I BELIEVE THIS DEPARTMENT IS SOUND, ALL RIGHT? WE’RE PUTTING OUT THE MESSAGE THAT THIS IS A GOOD PLACE TO WORK. WE’RE BACKING THAT UP. WE’RE PUTTING OUR MONEY WHERE OUR MOUTH IS BY GIVING THE TOOLS TO DO THEIR JOB. THOSE TOOLS INCLUDE 300 NEW MARKED AND UNMARKED VEHICLES. 150 NEW COMPUTERS. 375 NEW TASERS AND 200 ADDITIONAL BODY CAMERAS ALL COMING TO THE STATE’S HIGHEST PAID POLICE DEPARTMENT THIS YEAR, A DEPARTMENT OF 1,048 WITH 29 RECRUITS GRADUATING IN MARCH. AND THE CLASS OF 30 BEGINNING MONDAY. THE GOAL AT NOPD THAT’S 1600 STRONG. JUANITA MCNAIR HOPES TO BE IN THAT NUMBER. AS FAR AS THIRD GRADE I CAN REMEMBER WANTING TO BE A POLICE OFFICER. WE CAN GET OUT THERE AND HELP WITH THE YOUTH AND HELP THEM UNDERSTAND WHAT THE MEAN OF LIFE IS BESIDES GOING OUT FOR A LIFE OF CRIMES. CRIMES THAT MAKE THEIR WAY INTO EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD, A DAY OF PLANTING BOTH TREES AND SEEDS INTO THE MINDS OF THE NEW RECRUITS OF THE NOPD. THE MESSAGE WE WILL COME TO YOU. IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT US TO TO MAKE IT EASY TO BE A MEMBER OF THIS DIDN’T. ON YOUR SIDE IN THE NINTH WARD LA TONIA NORTON, WDSU NEWS. HE’S ASSEMBLED A 16-PERSON TASK FORCE TO PATROL THE STREETS
