Catholic Mass Today | Daily TV Mass (Monday August 5 2019)

By | August 30, 2019

From the historic Loretto Abbey Chaplin The kind cooperation of the Toronto Catholic District School Board The national catholic broadcasting council presents The daily TV mass Welcome to the celebration of the daily televised mass My name is father Dan Donovan. The televising of this mass is made possible by a contribution from an anonymous donor from Renfrew, Ontario This mass is offered for those deceased members of their family Our sincere thanks to our donor for making it possible for thousands of people across Canada and around the world To begin a new week by participating in this celebration In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all But is now in all age our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries You were said to heal the contrite of heart lord have mercy You can to call sinners Christ have mercy You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us lord have mercy May Almighty God have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life. Let us pray Almighty ever merciful God graciously keep us from all adversity So that unhindered in mind and body alike We may pursue in freedom of heart. The things are yours Through our Lord Jesus Christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit one God for ever and ever a Reading from The Book of Numbers as The Israelites marched through the wilderness They complained The people wept and said if only we had meat to eat We remember the fish. We used to eat in Egypt for nothing The cucumber’s the melons the leeks the onions and the garlic But now our strength is dried up and there is nothing at all. But this manner to look at Now the manner was like a Quran the seed and its color was like the colour of gum resin The people went around and gathered it Ground it in metals and beat it in mortars then boil it in pots and made cakes of it and The taste of it was like the taste of cakes baked in oil When the Jew fell on the camp in the night the manner would fall with it Moses heard people weeping throughout their families all at the entrances of their tents Then the Lord became very angry and Moses was displeased So Moses said to the Lord Why have you treated your servants so badly? Why have I not found favor in your sight? That you lay the bore of all these people on me That I could conceive all these people That I give birth to them That you should say to me Carry them in your bosom as a nurse carries a suckling child To the land that you promised on oath to their ancestors Where am I to get me to give to all these people? for they for they come weeping to me and say Give us me to eat. I am NOT able to carry all these people alone for they are too heavy for They are too heavy for me. If this is the way you are going to treat me put me to death at once if I have found favor in your sight and Do not let me see my misery The word of the Lord Sing with joy to God or help Sing with joy to God My people did not listen to my voice Israel would not submit to me So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow the wrong counsel Oh But listen to me That Israel would walk in my ways Then I would quickly slip to their And turn my hand against their foes Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him And their doom at last forever I Would feed you with the finest of the meat And with honey from the rock my would satisfy you Oi Yo, yo No one lives on bread alone But on my every word that comes from the mouth of God The Lord be with you a Reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself But when the crowd heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd and Heath had compassion for them and cured their sick When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said this Is a deserted place and the hour is now late Send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves Jesus said to them they need not go away You give them something to eat? They replied we have nothing here, but five loaves and two fish and he said bring them here to me Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass taking the five loaves and the two fish Jesus looked up to heaven and Blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples and the disciples gave them to the crowds and All ate and were filled and they took up what was left over over the broken pieces Twelve baskets full and those who were there were about five thousand men besides women and children the gospel of the Lord The first reading of daily Mass today and for most of this week is taken from the Book of Numbers the fourth of the fifth five books to make up the Torah or Pentateuch Throughout the first half of the book of Exodus are rather the last half of the book of Exodus all of Leviticus and the first ten chapters of numbers The Israelites were encamped at the foot of Mount Sinai They are they received from God the laws and precepts that were to govern their lives They are to through Moses God sealed a covenant with them He committed himself to be their God and invited them to be his people The moral conditions he spelled out for their remaining within the covenant are largely summed up in the Ten Commandments In the verses immediately preceding the passage assigned for today’s celebration The Israelites set out from Sinai on their journey to the promised land It will be a journey marked by challenges and failure But which in the end? Will bring the people to what will become their home The notion of life as a journey with a great goal that promises peace and well-being Has caught the imagination of people over the centuries all of us Whether as individuals or as members of communities and Nations as well as of the church are on a journey If anything the image of the journey has become even more relevant in our age with the enormous numbers of people Leaving or being forced to leave their homelands for what are often new in countries and new patterns of life The experience is particularly challenging for those who’ve been forced to leave their home because of violence oppression and poverty Sometimes the promised land they seek turns out to be radically different from what they had hoped for or expected Today’s reading highlights a phenomenon that comes back a number of times in the course of Israel’s journey and of the journeys of many of us In spite of all that is positive in their lives many complain The Israelites complain about the manna that mysterious food they find on the ground with the morning dew As nourishing as it is They’ve become sick of it and so they cry out against Moses and against God Give us meat to eat they demand The inevitable hardships involved in a journey across the Sinai desert Provoke the people to long for their life under the Egyptians They weep and lament If only we had meat to eat We remember the fish We used to eat in Egypt for nothing and all the fruits and vegetables that we then had Even Moses begins to complain against God Why have you treated your servants? So harshly? Yes Why have I not found favor in your sight? That you lay the burden of all this people on me Today’s Gospel describes the feeding by Jesus of a large number of people with a few loaves and fish The disciples description of where the event unfolds as a deserted place evokes Israel’s journey through the wilderness John the Evangelist relates the feeding of the multitude to the teaching of Jesus that he is the true mana The Living bread that has come down from heaven to give life to the world The basic journey we are on as Individuals is coextensive with our lives At times the journey is relatively easy and smooth and the road before us seems clear and straight At other times and for various reasons, it becomes more difficult and more dangerous Obstacles impede our progress and Darkness sometimes makes us lose our way As such times we call out for the help of those who are travelling with us Initially the journey that is human life tends to catch us up and to draw us forward when we are young we Can easily become so focused on the immediate goals that we have set for ourselves Then we rarely think of our ultimate goal We become more conscious of it as we grow older For the Bible our ultimate goal is God himself We have come from God and will one day return to him our conviction About the existence of that goal gives meaning and purpose to our journey Yet feeding the multitude Jesus reveals himself as the Messiah the Christ He has come to care for and lead his people on their pilgrimage to their homeland if the feeding of the multitude by Jesus recalls the biblical story of the manna and God’s accompanying of the people through the wilderness it all soon looks forward to the Last Supper a Day, jesus took bread blessed and broke it and gave it to his disciples He then asked them on us to do what he had done in memory of him The Eucharist has accompanied believers on their journey as Individuals and as members of the church For close to 2,000 years Each of us is called by God Called to live our life in a positive way To live it as God desires us to live it those of us who have come to explicit faith in Jesus are invited in the community of faith a Community that seeks to support and strengthen us in our journey The community to that we are called to help Become an ever more Effective witness to Christ and to his spirit had work in the world In the Eucharist the risen Jesus remains present Offering himself to us as food for our journey And encouraging us to trust that even in our darkest moments he is with us and with the church Let us now in faith and trust present before God our needs For all of us that are sharing in this Eucharist will deepen our faith in the presence of Christ with us and with the church Let us pray to the Lord For all those in the day DTV mass community have asked to be included in our prayer intention book Especially those seeking peace in their families. Let us pray to the Lord For the church his struggles to live up to its vocation to be a sacrament of Christ Let us pray to the Lord For those people who are coming to the end of their life’s journey That they will be filled with trusts and hope in God’s promises. Let us pray to the Lord Gracious God we ask you to hear and grant these prayers as well as the more personal ones That each one of us has in his or her own heart All this we pray through Christ our Lord Blessed are You Lord God of all creation 4:3 or goodness. We receive the bread we offer you Fruit of the earth work of human hands. It will become for us the bread of life Rather than thinking of this water and wine become partakers of his divinity Niki partaker of our humanity Blessed are You Lord God of all creation for through your goodness. We have received the wine we offer you Through to the vine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink Gracious go Wash me from my sins cleanse Pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be made acceptable to God the Father Almighty Though with favor, we pray O Lord upon the sacrificial gifts offered here Celebrating and mystery the passion of your son. We may honor it with loving devotion through Christ our Lord The Lord be with you lift up your hearts Let us give thanks to the Lord our God It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks Lord Holy Father Almighty and eternal God For justice through your beloved son. You created the human race So also through him with great goodness You formed it anew And so it is right that all your creatures serve you all the redeemed praise you with all your saints with one heart bless you Therefore we to extol you with all the Angels as in joyful celebration We acclaim You are indeed holy O Lord the fount of all holiness Make holy. Therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall, so That they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion He took bread and giving thanks broke it gave it to his disciples saying take This all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you In a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of My Blood the Blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins Do this in memory of me? Tommy history of faith Therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you Lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving Thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you Humbly, we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ. We may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit Lord remember your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity Together with Francis our Pope and Robert our Bishop and all the clergy Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the Resurrection and all who have died in your mercy Welcome them into the light of your face Have mercy on us all we pray that with the Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of God with blessed Joseph her spouse with the Blessed apostles And with all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages We may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son Jesus Christ Through him and with him and in him O God Almighty father in the unity of the Holy Spirit All glory and honor is yours forever and Oh At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation But deliver us from evil Deliver us Lord, we pray from every evil graciously grant. Peace in our days that by the help of your mercy We may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the Blessed Hope in the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles? Peace? I leave you my peace I give you look not upon our sins but upon the faith of your church and Graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who? live and reign for ever and ever May the peace of the Lord be with you always Let us offer one another a sign of that. Peace So Behold the lamb of God behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb? Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed Let us pray Nourished by this sacred gift o Lord we give you thanks and beseech your mercy By the pouring forth of your spirit the grace of integrity may endure in those your heavenly power has entered through Christ our Lord The Lord be with you May Almighty God bless you the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit Go in peace Our thanks to our donor for the gift of this mass If you’d like to sponsor a mass or share in sponsoring a mass Please call our office at one triple eight three eight three sixty to seventy seven for details Jesus You

Lord, I received Your blessing before I see my doctor today through the Holy Eucharist. Heal my fears and let me not complain and whine about it. Let me be reminded always that You are the Divine Doctor and even in today's Gospel You healed the sick. As I am claiming Your promise in Isaiah 53:5, please accompany me with Your Holy Spirit. I thank and praise You Lord!

Out of the depths I have Cried to Thee, O Lord: Lord hear my voice.
Let Thine 👂 ears he attentive: to the voice of my supplication.
If Thou. O Lord, will mark our iniquities: O Lord, Who shall stand
it? For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness: and by reason of Thy law I have waited for Thee O Lord.
My soul hath relied on His word: my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
My love for you is forever Papa.

    SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYER

    Jesus, I believe that You
are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things
and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment
    receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there
and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. AMEN.
