Catholic Kids Homilies – Baptism of the Lord Cycle C

By | November 9, 2019

Today is the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. Baptism is an important sacrament that links
all Christians because it gives us spiritual life. This makes us not only good people, but also
sons and daughters of God. When we are baptized in the name of the Father,
the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we become attached to Jesus, part of his mystical body. It’s all about grace, Jesus bringing us
into the divine life. Baptism is a gift, given to us even though
we can’t give anything back. God doesn’t need anything, but we need his
grace even though we don’t deserve it. And although we are born into a sinful world
with original sin, baptism gives us new life through grace. It saves us from our sin and makes us new. The other sacraments bring us even more deeply
into the divine life. The eucharist feeds our souls. Confession repairs our sinful souls. Confirmation strengthens the divine life in
us. Marriage and religious life are ways for the
divine life to work in our lives. In today’s gospel, Jesus gets baptized by
John the baptist and from heaven God says, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well
pleased.” An God says this to all baptized people. We all become his beloved sons and daughters
through the gift of baptism.
