I’m here to listen, not to preach.
That’s the priest’s job. Evangelism? What does that actually mean? I do go to mass and give an offering.
Isn’t that enough? All of us know Catholics who were raised in the faith, and have drifted away… no longer go to Mass. Maybe they go on Christmas and Easter,
but really have no relationship with the Church. All of us feel that desire and that frustration. We want to bring them back, but often times we don’t know how. The new evangelization is precisely how to do that… and that can be a scary word “evangelization.” It brings up images of knocking on people’s
doors or standing on a street corner with a Bible. That’s not the Catholic view of it. Evangelization is simply speaking to
others about our experience of Jesus. Why faith matters to us; the difference it makes to us. So, we don’t need to go up to total
strangers and just start talking about faith. Think of the people that are already in your life. Your family, your friends, your co-workers, your neighbors… who in that broad mix of people needs Christ the most… who needs faith? There’s people who are hurting, there’s
people that have questions and problems and perhaps they come to you already
because they know that you are a person of faith. You don’t need to be an expert.
You don’t need to be a salesman. Simply speak from your heart.
Speak about your experience of Jesus. Talk about prayer. Talk about what going to Mass does for you. Or that for the sacred hour on Sunday morning,
you find peace, you find joy, you find inspiration. Who doesn’t want that in their life? The Church is really calling us in this
Year of Faith and by this means of the new evangelization to turn our hearts inside out. Luke’s Gospel says that what you’ve heard whispered
behind closed doors, proclaim from the housetops. The word “Gospel” means good news. Whenever we receive good news…
we get a job promotion, somebody had a new baby, we instinctively want to share that
good news with others. And so it is with Christ. When our hearts have been turned around by Jesus,
when we have really come to know him and love him, do we not want to share that with others? Evangelization isn’t something for the experts,
it isn’t something beyond our reach. Simply talk about Jesus.
Invite people to pray with you. Text somebody before Mass and say, “Wouldn’t it
be great if you came to Mass with me next week?” There’s so many simple, wonderful
ways that we can witness to our faith. The Lord sends us forth to be His witnesses, and to be those bearers of the incredible news
that Jesus has been raised from the dead. It’s the Year of Faith and we’re connecting
Christ and the Catechism of the Catholic Church! Ignite your faith! Share this video with a friend and
